05 May Child Abuse Reporting 101: Online training June 1 for everyone to help our community
The Source and Community Foundation of Elkhart County are hosting another online training at 9 a.m. Monday, June 1.
During this pandemic, we need everyone’s help keeping Elkhart County children safe. The first training on May 11 drew a wide range of participants and the need for another online training was clear to continue to identify children at risk. We know that children across the U.S are experiencing higher rates of abuse because families are under a lot of stress.
Elkhart County is currently seeing fewer reports of child abuse, in part, because the people who normally care for our children — the daycare workers, teachers, school counselors and others — aren’t seeing kids every day. This means children are more at risk.
We need everyone who interacts with children to help. That includes:
• Grocery store workers
• Gas station attendants
• RV workers
• Shelter workers
• Food pantry staff
• School cafeteria workers
• Library staff
• Postal service workers
• Every member of our community
If you can, join us to hear from Wendy Disher-Taljaard, Elkhart County Local Office Director with Indiana Department of Child Services, and Leah Plank, Senior Director of Prevention Services with Child And Parent Services. They’ll lead a conversation and training on recognizing and reporting child abuse to keep our kids safe.
Monday, June 1
9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
No prior registration is required.
