The Butch Nine Scholarship

Sgt. Brant A. “Butch” Nine was born in Nappanee, Indiana and lived in the Nappanee-Bremen area his entire life.  Butch was a 6 ½ year veteran of the Nappanee police department when he was killed in the line of duty on November 3, 1988. This scholarship was established in honor of Butch’s dedicated service to the community by his friends, family and co-workers.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student from NorthWood High School who intends to pursue a degree in law enforcement, medical studies or fire service.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  1. Graduating high school senior from NorthWood High School
  2. Pursuing a degree in the field of law enforcement, medical studies or fire service
  3. Students planning to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university in the United States

Awards:  Annually, one new recipient will be selected to receive this four-year award. This scholarship currently awards $1,250 each of four years for a total of $5,000. 

Scholarship recipients will be notified each year at the Senior Awards Night at NorthWood High School by the Butch Nine Committee.

Apply between January 1 and March 1, 2024.
